Last updated: 04 Dec 2024
Vision and purpose
The Centre is dedicated to identifying, translating, and embedding the latest research and practice expertise to strengthen Victoria’s and Tasmania’s evidence base on adolescents who use violence in the home (AVITH).
The AVITH Practice Leadership team facilitates networking and enhanced sector development by creating specialised, evidence-based resources tailored to address the unique challenges and complexities associated with this field of practice.
AVITH Knowledge Hub
History
Initiated in 2019 with funding from Family Safety Victoria (FSV), the Building the Evidence project aimed to deepen understanding of youth violence in the home and effective intervention approaches. Later that year, the Centre conducted sector consultations to capture insights into conceptual frameworks and understandings, practice challenges, and workforce capacity-building needs for professionals working with young people using violence in the home.
Since that time, many more specialist providers have come on board to deliver AVITH services and our network has grown exponentially. There is now growing demand for specialised expertise to equip professionals from various service sectors with the necessary tools to adequately respond to and support these vulnerable young people.
Impact
AVITH engages in ongoing consultations with service providers to better understand the obstacles and enabling factors involved with adolescents who engage in violence in the home.
AVITH facilitates and supports three dedicated AVITH networks, promotes information-sharing through webinars and events, and maintains an online AVITH Knowledge Hub.
At the Centre, we contribute to interstate and federal-level projects to advance understanding of effective program design for adolescent violence in the family home. Our Practice Leaders continue to collaborate with community service organisations to deliver tailored training programs to support learning in this emerging field.
